Morning Class! :D

haha so long never hear this greeting from our teachers hor?

okay, i'm posting today to ask you guys about your preference for the chalet date. Previously, i did ask you guys over sms about 4th to 6th Jan 2010, but it seems like there will still be people overseas at that time. So we would be pushing it back a little, and the question is "push to when?"

fyi, kokwee and i have been debating over this for these few days and we couldnt get to a good conclusion, so we decided to ask all of you to vote and majority wins! :D

We are now deciding over 7th to 8th Jan, 13th to 14th Jan and after 15th Jan (okay the 3rd one is not so much into consideration ). Venue Aranda (like last year) and most probably 2D1N, cos i know most of you will mainly only come for the BBQ, so we shall save a bit of money and make you guys pay less(:

So... before you vote, i shall outline to you the pros and cons of each date! (so situational-.-)

as of now, both sets of dates are available. (i wont talk too much abt the after 15the jan one)

7th - 8th Jan (Thurs to Fri):

Pros:
- Results shouldnt be out yet.
- Most people would be back from overseas.

Cons:
- China scholars are not back yet. (they're back 10th jan and 11th jan), so each person has to pay more, and it wont involve the whole class.

13th - 14th Jan (Wed to Thurs):

Pros:
- Scholars will be back in town, can involve whole class.
- Less to pay per person
- Other ppl should be back from overseas too.

Cons:
- Results may be out (last yr came out 12th jan o.0)
- Later mood may not be very right (unless everyone gets 6 points :DDD)

okay. Then why not 11th and 12th jan? haha cos its our dear jeremy's and delphine's 17th birthday respectively, so we dont really wanna tie them down with our class gathering. (oh people! please rmb 1 Dec 2009 too! :DD haha joking:)

okay, so please do the poll below and vote for the date that you want to have the chalet on okay? Everyone must vote! dont "anything" then never vote okay! when you've voted pls tag on the tagboard to say that you have done so, and i'll bug those who havent to do it asap so that we can come to a conclusion(: oh and dont vote twice! haha.

went to check the chalet out:
aloha is charging $500 per night. so if we want 3 days 2 nights it will be $1000-.-
aranda is charging $240 per night for members. yupp.

so i dunno wad we r gonna do=x sigh it will be $18 per person even if we take aranda cos we will only have 28 ppl. yupp.

Place: Pasir Ris Park, BBQ Pit 9/10 (im not sure whr it is exactly either=x)
Time to meet: 3pm if you wanna join us in NTUC to buy food, 4pm if you wanna go thr straight.

Heyhey 3K, i realised that even though we are planning to have a BBQ at the 3rd week thurs of hols, we need to settle some things first...

Meanwhile, please feel free to edit this post to add on anything cause what im listing out here is just what i remember right now...

Rent BBQ Pit(Someone has to go find out before end of 2nd week, if not we cant bbq at all)
Downtown East/ East coast? (ehh have we come to a decision yet? o.0)
Food! Ha, this is a big category

time to enjoy some of sungei buloh's plants and animals!

some kind of breathing roots.whats that called? prop roots or sth.I've forgotten all my MYE geog stuff.i wasn't even paying attention to the NUS guy.haha ooppss.i don't think anybody did.

the monitor lizard there.kinda huge.there were quite a no of monitor lizards there,but this one was easy to capture.

spider.duh. a female one.its huge.the biggest spider I've ever seen cause apparently the spiders in my hse are just teeny weeny ones,I'm not even sure if those are spiders.

the so called squirrel,u can try enlarging it.there are actually colours on the underside of the body.all of us were like following the squirrel silently.that little guy just keeps moving.lol.that 'squirrel' was quite difficult to spot and zhen yi was the first to see it.observant zhen yi!((:

haha okay.these are some of the pictures i took.there are a lot more of other creatures like the crabs, some fishes, mud skippers etc which unfortunately i didn't manage to capture those.but i know that most of our clsmates were lucky.elize! manage to capture the crab or lobster or whatever that is that keeps hiding in the rock.whats that called?

First, the Flora,

This is a ...... FLOWER, obiviously, but i dunno its name but it looks nice, and ya so its a NICE and pretty flower

and these are its fat, shiny and plastic looking leaves

well these are just plants when looked at from the bottom, so muddy

the plant that secretes salt from its leaves ! starting with A.......

"kiasu" plant that germinates its seeds even before it is being dropped, just like singaporeans, must have head start then can suceed.

the amazing mangrove holly! imagine having christmas in the mangrove that has a HOT and HUMID climate instead of the COLD and FREEZING climate in the coniferous Biome [so geography]

it looks like a microphone doesn't it? but well its a plant of some fruit that we put in our rojak and its similar to ginger

ATTAP FLOWER ! its kind of ugly for a flower.... look at the dull orange bulb.

Now for the ROOTS !

not alot of roots but you can very well see that its AREIAL ROOTS

Haaa worth reading :D

One day a teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name.

Then she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down.

It took the remainder of the class period to finish their assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed in the papers.

That Saturday, the teacher wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and listed what everyone else had said about that individual.

On Monday she gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class was smiling. 'Really?' she heard whispered. 'I never knew that I meant anything to anyone!' and, 'I didn't know others liked me so much,' were most of the comments.

No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. She never knew if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another. That group of students moved on.

Several years later, one of the students was killed in Viet Nam and his teacher attended the funeral of that special student. She had never seen a serviceman in a military coffin before. He looked so handsome, so mature.

The church was packed with his friends. One by one those who loved him took a last walk by the coffin. The teacher was the last one to bless the coffin.

As she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as pallbearer came up to her. 'Were you Mark's math teacher?' he asked. She nodded: 'yes.' Then he said: 'Mark talked about you a lot.'

After the funeral, most of Mark's former classmates went together to a luncheon. Mark's mother and father were there, obviously waiting to speak with his teacher.

'We want to show you something,' his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket 'They found this on Mark when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it.'

All of Mark's former classmates started to gather around. Charlie smiled rather sheepishly and said, 'I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home.'

Chuck's wife said, 'Chuck asked me to put his in our wedding album.'

'I have mine too,' Marilyn said. 'It's in my diary'

Then Vicki, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group. 'I carry this with me at all times,' Vicki said and without batting an eyelash, she continued: 'I think we all saved our lists'

That's when the teacher finally sat down and cried. She cried for Mark and for all his friends who would never see him again.

The density of people in society is so thick that we forget that life will end one day. And we don't know when that one day will be.

So please, tell the people you love and care for, that they are special and important. Tell them, before it is too late.

my goodness my goodness my goodness,
We MANAGED TO somehow finish what we wanted to finish by today! Good job, peeps!

Yeah you all had shown great improvement since the CNY board,
and we had gained much more experience in knowing what things to handle and what things to get... colouring and blending etc etc... yeh!

I had also witnessed cases when you all really considered carefully as you dont want to make any permanent flaws to the decoration... & having the mentality to try to help out in the board, no matter how little changes you can do to it to make it prettier. :D

THATS THE SPIRIT YO.

Ok fine i wasnt really helping except the spray painting at the end... was rushing my late work ): yups! haha sorry :$

more people had been helping out and participating in this thing, and thats really good =] I sincerely hope that those who missed it this time will actively participate in other class activities.

With Mrs yeo's assistance, at last our board had some relevant content and headings this time.. so.. we must thank Mrs June Yeo...yeh!

International Friendship Day Noticeboard Competition

Ok. heres' it.

We are doing on Kendo Right.

For your information, i shall tell you about what the class noticeboard wants and how the judgers are going to judge etc. etc.

If you don't seem to have any form of interest in participating and giving a hand to the class people in decorating the board or contributing any ideas, think again.
Maybe i can help to persuade you, by telling you the aim:

"Through Sports, the students can learn to respect and appreciate differences amongst different cultures and races."
----- Found on the paper that Mrs Yeo had given us.

Btw, for those who are WILLING TO HELP. Below are the informations and how far we had gone in decorating the board.

Things we have completed:
Adopt a Sport that they have not learnt in school. (COMPLETED)

Conduct a research on:

How the sport is played
The keys to excelling in the sport
The link to sports values like promotion of the spirit of fair play, respect for rules, discipline and the team spirit etc
How to promote friendship through the adopted sport

(RESEARCHING BY RIGHT SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY EACH GROUPS)

Things that you have to know before doing anything. In case you have forgotten.

RELEVANT and INTERESTING information to SHOW YOUR UNDERSTANDING must be there.
We can include our THOUGHTS, PICTURES and ARTICLES
The judging area is ONLY THE MIDDLE BOARD, side boards are used for class work etc.
DEADLINE IS 16 APRIL WEDNESDAY. Judging will be done immediately after school on 16/4
There are prizes. -Eyes glimmer-

The Criteria:
ORIGINALITY: 30%
SUITABILITY TO THEME: 30%
EFFORT: 20%
OVERALL PRESENTATION:20%

So, in other words,
BOARD LOOKS SO WEIRD AND NEW TO TEACHERS: GIVE 30%
IT TOTALLY TELL JUDGES ITS KENDO! : GIVE 30%
WE WORKED VERY HARD: GIVE 20%
THE BOARD LOOKS SERIOUSLY PRETTY: GIVE 20%
Yes. thats the goal. of how our board must be.

After getting a few ideas of how this competition works, you may choose to continue reading to see some ideas that were discussed.

Theres something that we really missed out during the CNY board decoration: Headings and words. Our board was plain pictures and the only words existing was only the dui lian.

So this time we must really remember to include everything, ok?

Theres a number of ideas that were brainstormed before the assembly starts(im very attentive to mr chua's talk ok!)
Since we may include our thoughts/pictures/articles, i shall name the ideas out one by one classified under these 3 groups

Thoughts:

In group discussion during english, Elize suggested that we can use post-it-like Little notes to write our thoughts and we can actually paste these up as borders on the board.
I think this is a good idea, but maybe we can use coloured paper to cut out kendo's mask/sword/costume as the base shapes so it can be more relevant to the theme.
Everyone will be required to write a short sentence or two about this sport and it will be pasted up on the board. yeah :]
Materials needed will be glue, markers, scissors, construction paper

Pictures:

Brenda's Suggestion: Since Drawing the actual kendo player out may be quite a tough job, we can actually trace out the shadow of the kendo player and on the kendol player, write down the results of our research points.
This can tell the judges our understanding of the topic and things we picked up when researching about kendol. and also save much more work on troubling ourselves to colour the person etc.
The "shadow" can be done on a separate piece of cardboard/mahjong paper and collage/vanguard sheet and will be pasted on the board and thus will give a more 3D effect, showing the importance of the values.
Materials needed will be vanguard sheet/mahjong paper/cardboard, colouring materials, Superglue/UHU Glue(try to minimise the usage of pins as it will kind of uglify the board by the little colourful dots)

Kai Xuan suggested that we can try to draw a sakura tree as the background, im not sure how this can be done, by painting? mmm we can try...
I thought this is possible as there are great painters and people who blend colours well in class.
This idea also helps to tell judges our knowledge that we know kendo is from japan, and it will turn out rather nice for a background if we are able to do the sakura tree well.
Materials needed will be quite alot of paint(esp white, red, pink, brown and colours near brown), construction paper( if you all want to do collage instead of painting, but remember to bring glue too), markers, OHP, transparency.

For the Articles,
i thought its rather dry and quite ugly if we paste articles as a background as articles are supposed to be pasted neatly/one whole article which is rectangular. So maybe articles can be discussed later or maybe not included if we are unable to make a masterpiece out of it.. yeah.

And one last thing that we missed out last time,
the Heading. Brenda had offered to help to write the word "kendo" in Japanese on the board.

Kendo (剣道 kendō^?), or "way of the sword", is the Japanese martial art of fencing. Kendo developed from traditional techniques of Japanese swordsmanship known as kenjutsu.

Maybe the HEADING can just be Kendo in Japanese and with a smaller font, the "way of the sword" can be written in italic style below the word kendo.

Different ideas for the layout of the heading.
- Top.
- Behind the Shadow, the font size can be as tall as the board.
